1939
The 43rd US Open Championship was held at Philadelphia Country Club in 1939.
Sam Snead infamously blew his lead on the 18th hole with a triple-bogey. This led to a three way playoff between Byron Nelson, Craig Wood, and Denny Shute.
During the fourth hole of playoff, Nelson hit, perhaps, the most well known golf shot at PCC when he holed a 1-iron from the fairway and the rest, as they say, is golf history.
